Mission

The Restoration Psychology Institute exists to advance the scholarly development of Restoration Psychology® through research, theory development, publication, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Institute is committed to building a rigorous theoretical foundation for understanding the psychological, relational, and environmental processes through which individuals move from adversity toward restoration and human flourishing while translating scholarship into meaningful educational resources and practical application.

Vision

The Restoration Psychology Institute envisions Restoration Psychology® as a recognized area of psychological scholarship that advances scientific understanding of the psychological, relational, and environmental processes through which individuals move from adversity toward restoration and human flourishing.

Through continued scholarship, research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education, the Institute envisions a future in which Restoration Psychology® contributes to psychological science, higher education, professional practice, and interdisciplinary dialogue surrounding restoration and human flourishing.

Why Restoration Psychology®?

Adversity is a universal part of the human experience. While decades of scholarship in trauma, resilience, post-traumatic growth, and positive psychology have advanced our understanding of human adaptation and human flourishing, important questions remain regarding the processes through which individuals move beyond surviving adversity toward enduring restoration.

Restoration Psychology® was developed to explore these questions. Building upon established scholarship in positive psychology, resilience, trauma, developmental psychology, and related areas of psychological science, it examines the psychological, relational, and environmental processes through which restoration unfolds and how those processes may be better understood, studied, and intentionally supported.

The Restoration Psychology Institute advances this growing body of scholarship through research, theory development, publication, education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the translation of scholarship into meaningful educational resources and practical application.

Areas of Scholarly Inquiry

Restoration Psychology® integrates insights from multiple areas of psychological science while contributing to a deeper understanding of restoration following adversity. The Institute's scholarship currently focuses on several interconnected areas of inquiry that together advance the scientific study of restoration and human flourishing.
